KYW CBS Philly created and broadcasted an HD multi-cast “all-news” information channel, called “PopeCast”, focusing on the visit of Pope Francis to the city of Philadelphia on Sept. 25, 2015.
Why is it important?
“PopeCast” demonstrates an aggressive use of spoken-word material into a specialized “all-news” information channel for an important community event; in this case, the visit of Pope Francis to the city of Philadelphia.
At KYW Newsradio, there is often material collected for stories that doesn’t make the air in a short-form all-news format, so plenty of content was being fed into this 24/7 channel. It was sold to four advertisers who got public radio-style entitlements in the broadcast.
