The Broadcast Engineering and IT Conference kicks off at 9:15 with the opening session. This session includes a welcome from NAB President Curtis LeGeyt and CTO Sam Matheny, along with a presentation of the NAB Best Paper Award, honoring the author(s) of the best paper published in the NAB Broadcast Engineering and IT Conference Proceedings. The session features an exciting Keynote presentation about the future of broadcasting from Michael McEwen, Director General of the North American Broadcasters Association and Head of Secretariat, World Broadcasting Unions (WBU). In his keynote, he draws a line from technology development/implementation to the increased opportunities that it brings to broadcasters and the audiences they serve — past, present and future.

NABA Radio In-car User Experience (UX) Guidelines

Earlier this year, the first NABA Radio In-car User Experience (UX) Guidelines were published. Developed collaboratively with WorldDAB and based heavily upon their UX Guidelines, these documents together define the features and capabilities which listeners want in car radios. The goals of this session are to introduce these Guidelines to North American radio broadcasters, to highlight the regional differences and the reasons behind those, and to explain how receiver manufacturers and broadcasters can work together in accordance with the Guidelines to keep radio prominent in the connected car.

Technology Apprenticeship Program Graduation

Congratulations to the current participants of the NAB Leadership Foundation’s Technology Apprenticeship Program (TAP) TAP is an educational technical program designed to train, inform and recruit a diverse workforce that meets the emerging technology and engineering needs within the broadcasting community. Students received valuable technical training and industry connections to become a part of the next generation of broadcasting. During this paid six-month fellowship program, participants completed broadcast technology and AWS cloud-based instruction and met with top broadcast technology talent and mentors to explore the advancements and career opportunities available in this field.
