While many people are focused on man-made threats to GPS such as acute spoofers and jammers, or even Russian space nukes, the sun can be a formidable adversary to reliable timing too.  And U.S. critical infrastructure such as the power grid, cellular telecommunications, and financial data centers all rely on GPS for their timing and reliable operations.

AI, NEXTGEN TV and Doing More in 2024

“Let’s do more in 2024!” is the mantra Sam Matheny set for the new year back on January 1. The Consumer Electronics Show, better known as CES, was basically the “starting gun” of the new work year. The Consumer Technology Association (CTA) reports that 135,000+ people attended this year, up from 115,000 last year. This is solid double-digit growth and puts the pandemic firmly in the rearview mirror.

Sam Matheny and his team were honored to attend the 75th Engineering, Science & Technology Emmy Awards, to accept The Philo T. Farnsworth Corporate Achievement Award on behalf of NAB. The award is officially considered a Primetime Emmy Award and is presented by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

Recapping the Global Digital Terrestrial Transmission Workshop

The Global Digital Terrestrial Transmission Workshop was held July 19-21 in Busan, Korea. It featured expert speakers from Korea, India, Brazil, Japan, U.S., Canada, Europe, China and the greater APAC region. The workshop featured two and a half days of presentations on a wide range of issues related to the next generation of broadcasting.

Finding and Educating Young Engineers

NAB CTO Sam Matheny believes that Ultra HD is really about better storytelling and bringing the state of the art in terms of picture and sound quality. While NAB's participation has much to do with broadcast over the air (OTA) delivery of Ultra HD content, our members are also delivering content via cable, satellite and over the top (OTT).
