What an honor it was to attend the 75th Engineering, Science & Technology Emmy Awards, and even more so to go with my team to accept The Philo T. Farnsworth Corporate Achievement Award on behalf of NAB.
I first learned of Philo T. Farnsworth when studying communications in college. He is largely credited as the inventor of the electronic television, and this award in his name honors an agency, company or institution whose contributions over time have significantly impacted television technology and engineering. The award is officially considered a Primetime Emmy Award and is presented by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
It was very cool to meet Adam Savage of “Myth Busters,” and he did an amazing job hosting the evening. Check out the video of the presentation that features some wonderful remarks from many industry luminaries.
The week was made even more special as we were able to see the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) honor our Kelly Williams with the rank of SMPTE Fellow at a luncheon as part of their 2023 Media Technical Summit.
I have to say that uttering the words, “I’d like to thank the academy…” wasn’t on my life plan bingo card, but it was fun, and made more fun with the support of the technical team and members in attendance!
