Furthering its multiplatform distribution, KIRO, Cox Media’s CBS affiliate in Seattle, was the first TV station in its market – and among the first in the country – to roll out news offerings on Echo Show, Amazon’s touchscreen device. Just days after Echo Show’s June 2017 debut, KIRO started producing platform-specific two-minute video flash briefings. The videos feature news, trending stories and weather, which viewers can watch on Echo’s seven-inch screen. The flash briefings can be launched by voice command, the same way that audio news updates on Amazon’s devices work.
In offering video news on Echo Show, KIRO is expanding its reach to consumers who get their headlines via voice-activated devices versus linear television. The initiative allows Echo Show users to stay up-to-date on local news via the platform.
