NAB Labs Supporting Smart Spectrum Summit

Complementary Registration for NAB Members

A first-of-its kind conference next week will examine broadcast and other wireless spectrum in an entirely new way. It will be held on November 18th at the Westin City Center, Washington DC. NAB Labs is happy to support this event that looks “beyond the auction” to exciting new business and service opportunities for broadcasters.

Because of the support of NAB Labs and the event’s other sponsors, we are able to extend a FREE registration offer to NAB members. (See registration information below.)

Immersive One-Day Event on ATSC 3.0 Opportunities

The Smart Spectrum Summit is an immersive one-day event that will delve into new applications for broadcasters offered by the advent of ATSC 3.0. The conference is designed as a forum for broadcasters and allied industries, the public safety community (federal, state and local), investors, policymakers, and tech companies to explore opportunities for converged or hybrid broadcast/broadband networks.

Spotlight on Innovation and Public-Private Partnerships

The Smart Spectrum Summit will cast a spotlight on innovation and opportunities to create new public-private partnerships, use scarce spectrum more wisely, and improve emergency communications. Other sponsors include ONE Media, LG Electronics, Pearl TV, Monroe Electronics, Triveni Digital, Capitol Broadcasting Corp., and the AWARN Coalition.

Keynotes from Congress and FirstNet

The morning keynote speaker for the event is U.S. Representative André Carson, a leading advocate for modernizing America’s emergency communications system. Rep. Carson was recognized by the NAB for his support of activating the FM chip in smartphones.

Michael Poth, CEO of the First Responder Network Authority, or FirstNet, will deliver the afternoon keynote. FirstNet was awarded 20 MHz of UHF spectrum and $7 billion from auction proceeds to build a wireless broadband public safety network.

Matheny and Major Spectrum Investors on Opening Panel

NAB CTO Sam Matheny will speak on the opening panel, New Thinking/New Technologies for Spectrum Utilization. He will be joined by John Dooley, managing director of Jarvinian Ventures, one of the largest purchasers of spectrum in the AWS-3 auction earlier this year, and John Kneurer, senior partner of the private equity firm Fairfax Media Partners, LLC and former NTIA administrator.
