ATSC 3.0 enables broadcasters to develop interactive services bound to their respective channel using HTML5. While the ATSC 3.0 standard is incredibly powerful and flexible, many of the core broadcast services such as weather, content replacement, advanced alerting, etc., would be similar across different broadcasters.
To help broadcasters better optimize resources on ATSC 3.0 receivers and foster faster development and deployment of Next Generation TV interactive services, NAB developed the ATSC 3.0 Application Framework. This framework provides utilities, applications and core broadcast modules that enable broadcasters to share content across channels and services.
