In the summer of 2017, Univision Deportes raised its coverage of soccer’s Gold Cup to next-generation level, using its “teleportation” technology to virtually bring players and coaches to the Miami studios. Doing so makes it look like Univision’s air talent is interviewing soccer’s stars face-to-face. Although the network has used the technology in its Major League Soccer coverage, using it during the Gold Cup provided the opportunity for viewers to get to know players more intimately. It also helped the network tell compelling stories that go beyond the sport’s biggest teams, adding new dimensions to its Gold Cup coverage. The technology enables Univision to provide more in-depth, more intimate coverage of sports teams and stars. Viewers get up close and personal insight into athletes via virtual face-to-face interviews.
