On March 29, 2017, WRAL became the first local news station in the country to be available on Google Home. The service provides top headlines read by WRAL anchors and weather reports for central North Carolina.
Why is it important?
As Internet of Things (IoT) services become more common, voice-activated personal assistants such as Google Home or Amazon Echo have become an important avenue into the home. By being available on these devices, WRAL is making their services more easily accessible to their community, as well as reaching beyond their traditional audiences to new users.
